Here are a few tips to help you with the everyday care of your jewellery and how best to clean and store it. Proper care will ensure you keep your jewellery in lasting tiptop condition and make the very most of it.
All jewellery needs to be handled with care, and kept away from contact with perfumes and cosmetics, detergents and cleaning products, chlorine and any abrasives.
- Remove jewellery before going to bed, exercising or doing housework, or before washing, showering or bathing.
- Store items individually to avoid scratching.
Silver jewellery :
Silver jewellery oxidises naturally (tarnishes) in the presence of air and humidity.
When you are not wearing the jewellery, it is best stored in a closed bag away from air and light. Occasional cleaning with a special cloth removes tarnishing and keeps the silver bright.
Gold-plated or gold jewellery :
Gold plating tends to wear away over time. The rate at which this occurs depends on how the piece is cared for and how often it is worn. The fading patina is the result of perfectly normal natural wear. It is perfectly possible to re-plate a piece of jewellery. If you have any requests for re-plating, please contact customer service by e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org.
